Yogurt Whipped Cream is a healthy twist on homemade whipped cream that’s even more delicious! Serve with berries or on cakes and tarts.
Summer is all about simplicity in the kitchen, and nothing could be simpler than berries and whipped cream. Here’s a healthy twist on whipped cream that you can use with summer berries or as a topping for cakes and tarts: yogurt whipped cream! Several times after summer meals, Alex and I prepare our recipe for sweetened whipped cream to garnish with seasonal fruits. But this yogurt whipped cream idea from our friend Cheryl’s Yogurt Culture cookbook caught my eye. It uses half yogurt and half cream and is even better than the norm. Read on for the recipe!

How to make yogurt whipped cream
Yogurt whipped cream is made the same way as regular whipped cream. Start by beating 1 cup heavy cream with a hand mixer or stand mixer until soft peaks form. Next, add 1 cup Greek yogurt and some vanilla and continue beating, gradually incorporating 2 tablespoons of sugar.
The result is a slightly tangy, slightly sweet yoghurt whipped cream that’s perfect with ripe berries and topping cakes and chips. Alex said he likes it even more than whipped cream because the flavor is more complex; it’s almost like frozen yogurt (only better). It works with any type of seasonal fruit, and we like to toss something crunchy on top, like toasted almonds, although you can use any type of nuts or other crunchy topping. Be creative and experiment with your own creations!

Why Organic Greek Yogurt?
Alex and I try to use organic yogurt whenever possible. Why an organic yoghurt? There are many benefits to buying organic: it’s made with fewer chemicals, it’s better for the cows, it’s better for the farmers, and it’s better for the earth. And it tastes better! You may remember last fall I visited an organic dairy farm in Vermont and was able to meet the cows and farmers and learn about organic dairy farming. After that trip, I made a vow to buy organic dairy as much as possible. For our family, a dollar or two is more than worth it.
Not only does Greek yogurt help reduce the calories in this yogurt whipped cream recipe, but it also has other great benefits. Yogurt is packed with probiotics, which are fantastic for a healthy gut and immunity to disease. Here are some other Greek yogurt recipes that we love:
