Here’s one of the most refreshing smoothies we’ve ever had: a honeydew smoothie! Honeydew melon is a rare ingredient when it comes to smoothies, but this recipe will make you an instant fan. It has a nice, delicately sweet taste and a frothy texture. It’s moisturizing and healthy: and the melon flavor really shines! Accented with hints of honey and vanilla, it’s super sipable. Alex and I couldn’t stop drinking it. Find out how to do it!

What’s in this Honeydew Smoothie?

This honeydew smoothie contains just a handful of healthy ingredients rolled into one hydrating drink. The star of the show is of course the honeydew melon! Alex and I don’t buy them often, but Alex bought one on a whim the other day. After eating a bunch, we needed an idea for leftovers. Enter: the smoothie! Here’s what to mix:

  • Ripe honeydew melon: You will use about ½ large
  • Frozen pineapple: this brings an icy element and helps thicken the melon

  • Honey or maple syrup to boost the sweetness
  • Vanilla Bring just the right shade

A note on texture: it’s fluffy, not thick!

Melon smoothies (like our watermelon smoothie) generally have a fluffy texture because the melon thins as it is blended. Sure, you can freeze melon for a thicker texture—but who has time for that?

This honeydew smoothie turns out to be frothy rather than thick and icy. But it’s fantastic texture and has just the right amount of body! In this recipe, the frozen pineapple helps thicken it up a bit while the melon shines through.

Variants of honeydew smoothie

You can mix and match to customize this honeydew smoothie! Here are some variations we thought of (of course you can get creative!):

  • Vegan variant: Use coconut milk or your favorite brand of vegan yogurt instead of Greek yogurt and maple syrup instead of honey.
  • Honey Mint Smoothie: Add a few fresh mint leaves to the body of the smoothie: this will give it a herbaceous flavor and a more vibrant green color.
  • Honeydew Cucumber Smoothie: Add a few peeled cucumber slices for a spa vibe.

  • 1/2 large honeydew melon (5 cups diced)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (or coconut milk or vegan yogurt)
  • ¼ cup frozen pineapple (4 parts)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of kosher salt
  • Garnish: Mint leaves (or add them to the smoothie!)

  1. Dice the honeydew melon. Put it in a blender and blend for a few seconds until combined.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend until you have a pale green smoothie.
