Perfect yogurt

Looking for an easy breakfast or brunch idea? try that Berry yoghurt parfait! Smother Greek yogurt, berries, and peanut butter granola in a jar and it looks a lot fancier than it actually is. We’ve been making these for years, but here’s our latest favorite version. It’s like an updated version of MacDonald’s that tastes purer and more real (and less sweet). Try this Greek Yogurt Parfait for a fancy brunch or a quick breakfast!

This yoghurt parfait is quick and easy to layer: ideal for easy breakfasts. But it looks so amazing, it’s great for brunch too! You need this for the ingredients:

Why use frozen berries?

Why use frozen strawberries here? Can you use all fresh berries or all frozen berries? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Frozen berries help make a sauce. Thawing frozen berries makes a nice fruity sauce that can be mixed with maple syrup to flavor the berries. Again, there’s vibe from this fruit and yogurt parfait from McDonald’s.
  • Frozen food is also cheaper. It’s a bit cheaper than buying 2 cups of fresh berries.
  • But you can use any fresh berries or any frozen ones! Whatever works for you! You can also make a fruit compote with frozen berries: see below.

Greek yogurt vs plain yogurt

Our favorite yogurt in general is Greek yogurt, but you can use plain yogurt too! Here are some pointers for preparing a Greek yogurt parfait:

  • Greek yogurt is thick and creamy, with a delicious flavor. The taste is really superior to natural yoghurt.
  • Greek yogurt has many health benefits: it is high in protein and may help support gut health.
  • Substitute natural yoghurt if you like. Then follow the recipe below to add maple syrup and cinnamon to flavor it.

Variations on a yoghurt parfait

You can use many different types of fruit for this yoghurt parfait! We love it with berries, but the sky’s the limit here. Here are some ideas for mixing:

to use granola

The granola in these yogurt parfaits is important. Since this is such an easy recipe, it’s important to use the highest quality granola you can find. If you’re going to buy the granola, look for a high-quality, artisan-style granola. Or make your own! Here’s what you need to know:

Make ahead yogurt parfait instructions

Would you like to prepare yoghurt parfaits for breakfast in advance? This is a great option to advance, but there is one important thing to know:

  • You can prepare yogurt parfaits up to 4 days in advance.
  • The granola will become mushy after a few hours. If you’re making a breakfast ahead of time, layer the parfait without the granola. Then add it just before serving!

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (or plain yogurt)
  • 1 tbsp plus 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries*
  • 1 cup fresh berries such as blueberries, blackberries, raspberries or a mix
  • ⅛ teaspoon Cinammon

  1. Whisk together Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, and vanilla.
  2. Thaw the strawberries in the microwave, reserving the juice that is released upon thawing (optional if using frozen). Mix with the fresh berries, 1 tsp maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon.
  3. In each glass, layer 1/2 cup of yogurt, a pinch of berries and granola, 1/2 cup of yogurt, and another pinch of berries and granola. Serve immediately. Prepare the instructions in advance: You can also store it for up to 4 days, but the muesli will then become mushy. If you’re making a ready-to-serve breakfast without layering the granola and adding just before serving.

Remarks

* Thawing frozen berries helps make a juicy sauce for all the berries. But substitute fresh strawberries if you like!
