Drizzle on cookies, donuts, cakes: anything that needs a little sparkle. It’s our go-to frosting when we want to spice up baked goods, and it comes together in no time. (Unless, of course, we want chocolate and opt for that chocolate frosting.) Here’s how it’s done!

Ingredients for the vanilla frosting

This vanilla frosting is prepared in no time and only needs 3 ingredients plus water. It works well for use with cookies, donuts, bundt cakes, sponge cakes and even cinnamon rolls. Here’s what you need (see recipe below for quantities):

  • granulated sugar
  • whipped cream: The cream has a rich flavor that blends well in a glaze
  • vanilla extract
  • Water

Stir and adjust the liquid as needed

The most important thing about this vanilla frosting? Add additional liquid as needed until glaze reaches desired consistency. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Gradually add water. The amount of liquid below should create a smooth, glossy texture for the vanilla frosting. Add the water little by little, making sure it’s a thick but splashable texture.
  • Add a little more water if necessary. If it’s still not the right consistency, add liquid a teaspoon at a time until desired texture is achieved.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons whipped cream
  • ½ tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp the water

  1. In a medium bowl, slowly whisk together the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla. Gradually add water to create a smooth, pourable glaze. If the glaze is too sticky, add a teaspoon of water until smooth and thick. Use for dipping donuts or use a fork to drizzle over cookies, muffins, or cakes (enough for at least 12 donuts).
