Date smoothie

Do you have dates on hand? let’s make one Date smoothie! Dates are great for smoothies: they’re a natural sweetener with a sweet caramel flavor. They add a great source of fiber and enhance a smoothie’s creamy texture. Here’s how to prepare a naturally sweet smoothie with this delicious fruit: It comes out creamy and fruity, with a rich vanilla finish.

Ingredients of this date smoothie

This vanilla date smoothie is inspired by a date shake we had in Palm Springs (which is made with ice and a wholesome recipe!). We wanted to harness the flavor power of vanilla and dates but make a healthier puree out of it. What you need for this date smoothie:

  • milk
  • greek yogurt
  • frozen banana
  • frozen pineapple
  • Medjool dates (or deglet noor; see below)
  • vanilla extract
  • Cinammon
  • Ice

Mix it up and you have a delicious smoothie puree that tastes deliciously fruity. The only thing to remember: freeze the banana beforehand! You can also use store-bought frozen bananas. Frozen banana and pineapple combine to create a frosty base for this smoothie.

Medjool Date Recipes

Medjool dates versus Deglet Nour

Medjool dates are our top choice for this date smoothie. These are very large, soft dates with an intense sweet caramel flavor. This type of dates has become popular for use in energy bars and can be used in many types of recipes to add sweetness.

If you can’t find them, deglet noor dates can also work. However, this type of dates has a much harder texture and is not as sweet. How many Deglet Nour dates to replace with Medjool? Use 8 Deglet Noor dates to equal 4 Medjool dates.

Date smoothie

Vegan variant

Want to turn that date smoothie into a vegan smoothie? Simply replace oat milk or almond milk with milk and Greek yogurt. Use oat milk instead of Greek yogurt and milk, starting with ¾ cup and adding more as needed.

You should also add a source of protein since Greek yogurt is high in protein. Try 1 tablespoon of almond butter, chia seeds, or vanilla protein powder.
