Ingredients for watermelon tequila skewers
This new idea for summer fun comes from Alex, who had the crazy idea of sprinkling tequila on some cubes of our watermelon salad. It had the best tart and sweet taste that was intensely refreshing! We knew we had to make a party out of it. Here’s everything you need:
- Ripe seedless watermelon: Make sure it is a top quality sweet ripe melon!
- Fresh mint: A few leaves add great flavor and are perfect for garnishing
- lime juice
- tequila
Why the watermelon alcohol combo works
You’ve probably heard of a vodka watermelon, where you poke a hole in a watermelon and pour an entire bottle of vodka into it. We’ve heard mixed reviews of this stunt, and most people say it doesn’t work. As we don’t like wasting alcohol (especially a whole bottle) we didn’t try it.
So why not use just ¼ cup of tequila to try this tasty appetizer or treat? You can’t beat the way tequila brings out the hint of lime and sweetness of watermelon. You really have to try to believe it!
How much alcohol is in these tequila watermelon skewers? The total alcohol content is very low. The 6-serving recipe contains just a little more alcohol than a classic margarita.
Mix the ingredients and refrigerate for 1 hour (or not…)
All you have to do to prepare this recipe? Mix watermelon, tequila, lime juice, mint: and wait! It tastes best when it’s chilled and the ingredients have had some time to mix.
Don’t want to wait? It’s good too! It’s good right away and even better when you start with a chilled watermelon. But for best results, refrigerate 1 or 2 hours before serving.
Serve watermelon tequila juice in shot glasses
Here’s another great serving idea for these watermelon tequila skewers (courtesy of Alex, of course!). You will notice that after the skewers cool, juice will collect at the bottom of the container. Yes, it’s all that tasty watermelon-tequila-lime goodness oozing from the fruit!
You can also use it: Strain into small shot glasses in a shaker! He makes the cutest presentation and a sip of cash? That is expensive.
