What is a tequila soda?

Tequila soda is a highball cocktail made with tequila, lime juice, and sparkling water. Adding water or sparkling water to liqueur is an old concept: it dates back to Rickey’s gin, invented in the 1880s! This concept combines gin with mineral water and lime juice. There are many other cocktails that use this concept, such as B. whiskey highball, vodka soda etc. Even the wine spritzer and shandy stem from this tradition!

How do you make this easy cocktail? Take these ingredients and pour them into a glass – you’ll be ready in 1 minute!

  • tequila (3 ounces): any type of tequila: blanco or reposado
  • Carbonated water (4-5 ounces): unsweetened carbonated water, not tonic water (unless you want to make a tequila tonic!)
  • lime wedges (2 wedges): From a fresh lime – substitute non-bottled lime juice!

Want to turn your tequila soda into another trendy cocktail? Make it ranch water! Ranch Water is basically tequila soda with a little more lime. Here’s what you need to know:

  • ranch water is a tequila-based highball cocktail that originated in West Texas. Some people say a rancher in Texas invented it in the 1960s. It was a word-of-mouth drink until about 2010, when Texas bartenders began adding it to their menus.
  • How do you make ranch water? Just step up the lime in this tequila soda! Use 1 ½ ounces of fresh lime juice instead of 2 lime wedges (go to this ranch water recipe). This makes it even more sparkling and wonderfully intoxicating.

Or looking for tequila and soda?

Considering mixing tequila and soda instead? Because you can too! Carbonated water is unsweetened carbonated water and is typically used in drinks like this and vodka soda and whiskey soda. But you can also mix Tequila and Lemonade! Here are some options that go well with tequila:

  • Lime Lemon Soda (or Sprite): Add the same amount of lemon-lime soda as in the recipe below
  • Sparkling lemonade: Add store-bought or homemade sparkling lemonade
  • Tonic water: Tonic water is slightly sweet and mixes well with tequila
  • Cola: Try tequila and cola, sometimes called batanga
