Tequila Lemonade
Tequila Lemonade

Tequila Lemonade is a deliciously tangy 2-ingredient cocktail! It’s refreshing and light, and works like a makeshift margarita.

Tequila and Lemonade

Here’s a deliciously easy way to keep sipping all summer long…Tequila Lemonade! Tequila and lemonade are a perfect match: the energetic citrus fruits go hand-in-hand with the zest of the spirit’s finish. So why not mix it up in a quick 2 ingredient cocktail? It comes together in a flash, and better yet, it makes a stellar easy version of a margarita! No syrupy margarita mix required.

What’s in tequila soda?

This tequila soda requires nothing more than the two ingredients in its name. It’s best to use homemade lemonade because of the flavor unusual. But in an emergency you can also use purchased products! In our opinion, it’s actually a pretty decent lazy version of a cocktail. What you need for the tequila lemonade:

  • homemade lemonade (lemons, sugar and water) or bought lemonade
  • Tequila (white or rested)
Lemons

Prepare it with a pitcher or glass

If you go with homemade lemonade (and we hope you do!), you can make it in a jug or glass. The homemade recipe makes 8 cups, but you only need 6 cups for one pitcher of tequila soda (keep leftovers in the fridge and save for later). You can also make it in the jar if you only make one serving at a time. Here’s what to do:

  • Prepare homemade lemonade. You will need 6 cups of lemonade for a pitcher, or ¾ cup for a drink. You can also make a single serving of homemade lemonade: just mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of warm water, then add 1 cup of cold water. For this recipe, measure out ¾ cup.
  • For the launcherUse 6 cups of lemonade and 2 cups of tequila.
  • for glass, Use ¾ cup lemonade and ¼ cup tequila.

It almost tastes like a makeshift margarita

Tequila and soda go so well together, they almost taste like a spiced margarita! The citrus note is reminiscent of lime juice, although not as astringent. But we like the idea of using store-bought soda as a tequila mix instead of margarita mix, which can be syrupy sweet. (The antidote to that, of course, is our homemade margarita mix… but we digress.)

Best tequila to use

What is the best type of tequila for this drink? This cocktail is pretty casual, so there really isn’t a wrong way to mix it. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Tequila Blanco (unaged) is ideal to accompany lemonade. Patrón Silver is a good mid-range tequila blanco, and it pairs well with this Patron Margarita.
  • Tequila Reposado (aged) adds hints of oak and vanilla. Reposado adds a layer of sophistication! It gives less of a summery, chilled vibe but adds some intriguing notes. This is our best tequila for margaritas.
