The description

These Healthy Steamed Brussels Sprouts are quick, easy, and really good! Here’s how to steam them perfectly.

  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts (stem removed)
  • 1 tbsp butter (or olive oil or vegan butter)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper

  1. If necessary, trim the tough ends of the Brussels sprouts. Cut them in half lengthwise.
  2. Place about 1 inch of water in a pot or saucepan. If you are using a steamer basket without a handle, place it in the pot now: the water surface should be just below the basket. Boil the water.
  3. Once boiling, add the Brussels sprouts (into the steamer basket if it has a handle). Cover and simmer, until just tender when pierced with a fork, about 6 to 7 minutes. Timing is important: you want it to be tender throughout: not too crispy, but before it starts to lose its light green color.
  4. Carefully place the Brussels sprouts in a bowl. Mix with butter, kosher salt, chives and freshly ground black pepper. Mix until the butter melts. Serve immediately. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days.
