This is what you need for the smoked salmon and cream cheese spread

Smoked salmon is the heavyweight here with its bold flavor and buttery texture. All you need are a few fresh ingredients to make an excellent spread! Here we used a little trick to keep things lighter: add Greek yogurt! It adds a kick and keeps the smoked salmon spread fluffy, cutting down on some calories as well. Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • Smoked salmon: Use cold-smoked salmon (which has a soft texture), not hard-smoked (which is flaky and looks more like cooked salmon). Or of course either work! You can also use lox if it’s available to you.
  • cream cheese: Full of fat gives the best fullness, but you can also use less fat.
  • Greek yogurt: Using yogurt in combination with cream cheese saves some calories but no taste!
  • Dijon mustard
  • Green Onion
  • fresh dill

You will first whisk everything except the salmon in the food processor, then add the salmon and pulse until it reaches your desired texture. Then you’re ready to feast to your heart’s content!

Most smoked salmon is very salty, but that depends on the brand and type. You need to match the flavor of the smoked salmon spread to the product you are using. It should be flavorful after you add the smoked salmon. If the flavor doesn’t stand out, add a few pinches of salt!

There are so many fun ways to use smoked salmon spread: our favorite is on a bagel! (Anything bagel prefers, of course.) But you can use it as a spread on sandwiches, crackers, toast, etc. Here are some ideas:

  • ¾ cup greek yogurt
  • 4 oz Cream cheese (half pack)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 6 ounces Smoked salmon*

  1. Place the Greek yogurt, cream cheese, Dijon mustard, chopped spring onions and chopped dill in a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the smoked salmon cut into pieces. Pulse until it blends into the dip (you can make it a little thicker or smoother). Flavor: Smoked salmon should be salty enough to flavor the dip. Alternatively, add a pinch or two of salt. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 4 days (assuming the smoked salmon is freshly opened).

Remarks

*If using very salty smoked salmon, you can add 4-5 ounces of salmon first, then add more if desired. Ours was very salty but we liked the taste with 6 oz.
