Shrimp Pizza

We’ve made just about every pizza recipe, from classic margherita pizza to fusion-style taco pizza. But here’s a new pizza that immediately hit the top of our list: this one 3 Cheese Shrimp Pizza! Shrimp on pizza isn’t what first comes to mind. But let me tell you: it’s a must! The buttery garlic shrimp vs. creamy ricotta cheese is one of the best pizza topping combinations we’ve had in a while. It’s so satisfying, you’ll be amazed. It’s like alfredo shrimp on a pizza crust instead of pasta…which is as good as it sounds.

How do you do that better Shrimp Pizza (Basic Method)

Shrimp on pizza isn’t usually our first choice. But after eating an amazing seafood pizza at one of our favorite pizza places in town, we knew we had to try it! Our version doesn’t look very much like theirs (so you have to try it!). But what it has in common: juicy shrimp with garlic butter! Here’s what to do to make the best shrimp pizza recipe:

  • Sauté prawns with garlic and butter. Sear these shrimp to perfection before using them as a pizza topping! Follow the instructions below or our Sauteed Shrimp recipe.
  • Spread the seasoned ricotta over the dough. No need to make an alfredo sauce: just spread lightly seasoned ricotta directly onto the batter.
  • Top with mozzarella and parmesan and bake! It only takes 5-7 minutes in a super hot oven. It’s better if you have a pizza stone! Speaking of…

Use a pizza stone if you can!

This shrimp pizza is best baked on a pizza stone. Why? A pizza stone gives an absolutely perfect crust texture! Here’s what you need to know:

  • pizza stone: A pizza stone makes the Italian pizza base crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Here’s the best pizza stone we’ve found, along with maintenance tips.
  • pizza shovel: Use a pizza peel to transfer the pizza onto the hot pizza stone in the oven. We recommend this Standard Pizza Shovel or this Conveyor Pizza Shovel.

Don’t have a pizza stone? It’s good too! You can prepare your pizza directly on a baking tray.

Homemade pizza dough is best, or use these shortcuts!

In our opinion: making your own pizza dough is always worth it! The result is much better than what you can buy in the store. But of course: there is not always time for that! We understood. Here are some batter options for this shrimp pizza recipe:

  • Master the pizza dough! This best pizza dough has it all perfect taste and texture. That’s great. This takes 15 minutes to prep and 45 minutes to rise before baking.
  • Thin crust. Try this thin crust pizza dough! It rolls easily into a thinner, crispier crust.
  • pan pizza. Or make a pizza pan out of it in a cast iron skillet! Cast iron pizza takes a little longer but comes off easier.
  • Naan pizza or flatbread. Do you want to shorten the process completely? Try the naan pizza or the flatbread pizza.
  • Store-bought pizza dough. We’ll do that in no time too! Find a good quality brand (experiment to find your favorite).

The shrimp to purchase for the shrimp pizza

There are many options in the store when it comes to shrimp! It doesn’t matter if you accidentally choose the wrong one for this recipe: the pizza is very tasty! But here are a few things to watch out for:

  • Find medium sized shrimp. Medium is good for a pizza topping: it is also marked with 41 to 50 points. You can also use small shrimp.
  • Use peeled shrimp. We often recommend queuing, but you don’t want that for the pizza! If you buy the wrong variety, simply remove the skin before cooking.
  • Fresh or frozen. Both have essentially the same freshness as most shrimp are frozen immediately. Just make sure you thaw the shrimp beforehand.
  • wild caught. Wild fish caught in your country is generally a sustainable choice. There are also quality options at well-regulated farms; see Seafood Watch consumer guide.

The description

This Shrimp Pizza Recipe is packed with flavor, with buttery shrimp and 3 cheeses! It’s garlicky, creamy, and an absolute crowd pleaser.

  • 1 Kugel Best Pizza Dough (or Thin Crust Dough)
  • 1/2 Pound medium shrimp, deveined and shelled
  • ¼ teaspoon plus ⅛ tsp kosher salt, divided
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup Whole milk ricotta cheese
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

  1. Prepare pizza dough: Follow the Best Pizza Dough or Thin Crust Dough recipe to prepare the dough. (It takes about 15 minutes and 45 minutes to rest.)
  2. Place a pizza stone in the oven and preheat to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. (If you don’t have a pizza stone, you can also make the pizza on a baking sheet.)
  3. Preparation of the toppings: Thaw frozen shrimp beforehand. Chop the garlic. Dry the shrimp. In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with the minced garlic and ¼ tsp kosher salt. In a medium-sized skillet, heat the butter over medium-high heat. Cook the shrimp, 1 to 2 minutes on each side, until opaque and cooked through, flipping with tongs. When done, place the shrimp in a bowl.
  4. In a small bowl, toss the ricotta with ⅛ teaspoon Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper.
  5. Bake pizza: When the oven is done, dust a pizza peel with corn or semolina flour. (If you don’t have a pizza peel, you can use a rimmed baking sheet or the back of a rimmed baking sheet. But a pizza peel is worth the investment!) Roll out the dough in a circle; For instructions, see How to stretch pizza dough. Then carefully place the dough on the pizza peel.
  6. Spread the seasoned ricotta over the dough, then ¼ cup mozzarella cheese. Add the shrimp, reserving the butter at the bottom of the bowl. Top with the remaining ¼ cup mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. Add a pinch of the reserved butter (use about half).
  7. Use the pizza peel to carefully transfer the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone. Bake the pizza until the cheese and crust are golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes in the oven (or 1 minute in a pizza oven).
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley. Cut into pieces and serve immediately (using a knife is easier to cut through the shrimp).
