To peel or not to peel?

Many people make sautéed apples with peeled apples. But we prefer to leave the skin alone! Why?

  • Apple skin is nicer. The slightly blush tint makes the apples look pretty instead of just brown mushy mounds.
  • The apple peel adds texture. Searing the apple with the skin gives it a nice texture when you bite into it, rather than turning it into a pulp.
  • The skin of the apple contains many nutrients. Not that you’re looking for nutrients in a dessert recipe! But the apple peel contains many vitamins like vitamin K, vitamin A and vitamin C, which you throw away with the peel.
