What is a royal flush drink?

The Royal Flush Drink is a cocktail of Crown Royal Whiskey, cranberry juice and peach schnapps. It is named after the highest possible poker hand: Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of the same suit, making it a suitable drink for card games. Some recipes include Chambord, a black raspberry liqueur, but the original recipe doesn’t include it and the flavors work without the added liqueur. What you need for the Royal Flush drink:

Use 100% unsweetened cranberry juice

What Kind of Cranberry Juice Should Be Used in a Royal Flush Drink? Unsweetened. We prefer to use 100% unsweetened cranberry juice in all of our cranberry cocktails. Here’s why:

  • Avoid sweet cranberry juice, also known as cranberry juice cocktail. It contains a lot of added sugar. These days you can find boots labeled 100% juice or “unsweetened” cranberry juice.
  • The unsweetened juice provides balance and vibrant color. Cranberry acid is a great antidote to fruity peach. It also makes a bright and vibrant red drink.
  • Use a little plain syrup to balance. It’s very tart so we added a dash of simple syrup to balance it out. If you can only find sweet cranberry juice, omit it!

Find out more about Crown Royal Whisky

It was only available in Canada until 1964, and then was introduced in the United States in the 1960s.
