Why cut into 3/4 inch pieces

Sounds oddly specific, right? But we’ve found that a 3/4-inch cube is the best size for roasted sweet potatoes. A 1/2 inch piece will be small and shriveled and won’t feel strong enough. The 1 inch pieces are quite large and will take longer to fry. So 3/4 inch is perfect! (Trust us.)

The taste secret: garlic powder!

Here’s our roasted sweet potato flavor secret: garlic powder takes sweet potatoes on top! It doesn’t even taste like garlic: it’s just a tasty, toasted candy. Also add olive oil and kosher salt to the mixture. Quantities are easy to remember:

  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes (about 4 medium)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt and garlic powder

Why Roast Sweet Potatoes Over High Heat

The best temperature for roasting vegetables? High Heat: 450 degrees Fahrenheit or 230 degrees Celsius. Why? This will make them tender on the inside and caramelized on the outside. Use a lower temperature and it will cook through but not caramelize.

Toss those sweet potatoes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and roast them! The best part? You don’t even have to stir: just leave the potatoes as they are so they caramelize nicely on the bottom. Remove from the oven and enjoy!
