Restaurant Style Salsa
Restaurant Style Salsa

This restaurant-style salsa is easy to customize to suit your tastes and goes great with fries, scrambled eggs, enchiladas and more!

We eat salsa with almost everything, from more traditional Mexican dishes to our (very) famous fridge-cleaning stir-fries. We usually keep a jar or two in our fridge at all times, and we have a great pico de gallo recipe for summer when the tomatoes are in full bloom. As such a salsa fan, I was surprised to only recently discover a new salsa concept – roasted tomato salsa. We bought some to go with our black bean tostadas, and it was so good I couldn’t wait to repeat the concept. This recipe was my first attempt at reverse engineering a recipe from the back of a label, but some trial and error online resulted in a restaurant-style salsa that suited both of our tastes.

The great thing about salsa is that you can easily customize it – just add the amount of ingredients to your liking! We enjoyed the smoky, slightly sweet taste of this version; It’s a big variation while we wait for our new tomato plants to start. By the way, we rarely eat salsa with fries, but since we had tortillas left over, we tried our hand at homemade tortilla chips. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were; They were a lot less greasy than the store bought version. How to Eat Salsa (In Addition to Fries)

I already know what you’re thinking: If you don’t eat your salsa with fries, how do you eat it? Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy this restaurant-style salsa:

  • Above the scrambled eggs– Scrambled eggs takes it to the next level with a few dollops of salsa. For a heartier breakfast, you can fold the eggs and salsa into a corn tortilla with a few other fillings to make a breakfast taco.
  • As a dip for Mexican pizza— We have two different Mexican pizza recipes on our blog, and to be honest, I don’t know which is my favorite. No matter what I’m doing, I love to dip my piece in this restaurant-style salsa for an extra flavor boost.
  • Substitute for enchilada sauce— Salsa goes great with enchiladas. While the taste is different from enchilada sauce, it brings unbeatable freshness to the dish.
  • Mixed in soups– Any peppery tomato soup benefits from a few scoops of homemade salsa. Your soup won’t end up tasting like salsa, but it will have a deep flavor that you’ll really love.
  • On tacos and other Mexican dishes– No explanation is required for this. Top off your favorite Mexican dishes with salsa and enjoy! These loaded nachos are especially good and make great use of the restaurant-style salsa.
