What’s in a Raspberry Martini?
The Raspberry Martini is part of a long list of flavored vodka martinis. This family of drinks has almost nothing in common with the Classic Martini… except for the glass! The classic martini features ultra-dry gin and vermouth, with a bitter burn on the finish. Vodka martinis became popular in the 1990s, and they come in all flavors sweet and fruity: think cucumber, watermelon, or chocolate.
Some vodka martinis have official International Bartender’s Association definitions, such as: B. Lemon martini and espresso martini. All other vodka martini recipes are mixologist dependent, so ingredients will vary. Here’s what’s in our version of a raspberry martini cocktail:
- vodka
- cranberry juice (unsweetened*)
- lemon juice
- raspberry syrup (preferably homemade or bought)

It’s better with homemade raspberry syrup!
This raspberry martini cocktail gets its wonderfully sweet flavor from raspberry syrup! We highly recommend making the syrup fresh as it has the best pure berry flavor. Note that you must do this do it in advance: but it only takes 10 minutes of manual labor every hour. Mix up a batch and prepare to shake the drink. Here are the basic steps:
- melt sugar: Place 1 cup sugar and ½ cup water in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for about 1 minute until the sugar has dissolved.
- Add berries and let simmer: Add ½ cup of fresh raspberries and cook until berries break down, about 5-6 minutes, reducing heat when it begins to boil. If necessary, break the berries with a spatula. Once completely liquid, strain into a glass using a fine-mesh strainer and spatula.
- Cool: Allow to cool and then store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
