Raspberry Iced Tea

Here’s a perfect light drink for warm weather: Raspberry Iced Tea! This recipe uses real berries to add a tart twist to this summery drink. It’s balanced with just the right amount of sweetness to make the berries sing. What’s more fun than adding fresh fruit to tea? This one is great for outdoor entertaining and celebrations, or casual sipping on your patio (we love both). The taste is beyond fresh and homemade is far tastier than store bought. How to do it!

Ingredients for raspberry iced tea

Making raspberry iced tea is easy: raspberry syrup doesn’t have to be simmering on the stovetop! You will simply mix the berries with water and sugar, then add to the tea and let cool. Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • Frozen Raspberries: Frozen berries are much cheaper than fresh ones, and the taste is excellent. Feel free to use them fresh if you have them!
  • Lemon: fresh citrus fruits accentuate sweet, tart berries
  • Sugar: Sugar is needed here to balance the taste, otherwise it will be too tart
  • Bag of black tea: Black tea has the best taste here. Keep in mind that it contains caffeine, but only about half the caffeine content of a cup of coffee.

Tips for straining raspberries

The main part of this effortless raspberry iced tea is straining the raspberries. Because raspberry seeds make uncomfortable floaters in a drink, you’ll want to remove them as part of the process. Place the berries in a blender with the water, lemon juice and sugar and blend until a puree forms. Here’s what to expect when you get tired:

  • Use a fine mesh strainer. You want to remove any seeds here, so a fine-mesh strainer is essential to achieve a smooth, syrupy texture.
  • Use a spatula to gradually press the syrup through. It takes longer than you think! But keep forcing with a spatula until all the seeds are removed.

Garnish the drink

When using this raspberry iced tea for entertaining or parties, the garnish is just the ticket! Add a few extra raspberries or lemon wedges to the pitcher or each glass. The colorful straws also add a fun element: we love these striped paper straws.

Point: If you don’t plan to buy more raspberries, save a handful to fill the 2 cups you’ll use for the pitcher. (Saving a few never hurts!)
