How to make ranch spices
Most ranch spice recipes are quite similar, trying to recreate this classic Hidden Valley ranch package. For this recipe we wanted to keep it simple and classic and use spices that we already had on hand. All you have to do is mix the following and it will last up to 1 year. Here’s what’s in ranch spice:
- dried parsley*
- Dried dill
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- Dried chopped onion
- salt and black pepper
The only thing you might not have on hand is a dried sliced onion. It’s usually easy to find at your local grocery store, although it’s a bit more unique. You can also use it in our Everything Bagel Homemade Seasoning!

Use 1: Ranch Dressing!
The most popular way to use ranch dressing: make ranch dressing! Now: Most recipes call for adding the spices to 1 cup milk and 1 cup mayonnaise. That’s a lot of mayonnaise! To cut the calories a bit and have a fresher, healthier version of the ranch, Alex and I have a trick. Use plain yogurt with mayonnaise! Using a little yogurt saves calories and adds flavor that you would traditionally get from buttermilk. Here’s how to make our healthy ranch dressing with this ranch seasoning:
- 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning
- ½ cup whole milk yogurt
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Use 2: Ranch Vegetable Dip!
Another great way to use ranch spices is in ranch dip! Same theory here too. Alex and I like to use Greek yogurt instead of traditional sour cream and mayonnaise. Here’s how to make a healthy ranch dip with this spice:
- 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning
- 2 cups Greek whole milk yogurt
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
- A few pinches of salttaste good
- water splash, bring to a creamy consistency if necessary (depending on the yoghurt brand)
