vegetable dip

At this point, a good veggie dip is as American as apple pie, right? Vegetable platters adorned our childhood family gatherings, and really, there’s no easier way to get people to eat their veggies. Here’s our goal that you’ll want to do again and again: this vegetarian dip recipe! It’s super creamy and flavorful and easy to make with just the right combination of spices. No pre-packaged ranch spices needed here! This relatively healthy vegetarian dip is a snack everyone will love – and it takes just 5 minutes to make.

Ingredients for this vegetable dip recipe

This veggie dip recipe tastes like you’d expect from a veggie platter – only better! Something about the combination of spices here makes it utterly irresistible: and they’re probably spices you already have on hand. The other trick? Mix together Greek yogurt and mayonnaise for a creamy but not too rich dip. (We use this idea in our Caesar dressing, spinach artichoke dip, etc.) Here’s what you’ll need for this veggie dip:

  • greek yogurt
  • mayonnaise
  • onion powder
  • garlic powder
  • Dried dill
  • Kosher salt
  • Chopped fresh chives or green onions
  • Freshly ground black pepper

All you have to do? Mix them up and serve. It is so easy! Don’t have any chives or spring onions? It’s just as delicious without: however, we recommend the fresh element to nuance the flavor.

Variations: Add chilli powder and more

Want to add even more flavor to this veggie dip? Adding ¼ teaspoon of chili powder adds complexity without extra effort. Remember: this will make the color of the dip a little more orange! Here are a few more additions to vary this vegetable dip:

  • chilli powder (¼ to ½ teaspoon)
  • smoked paprika (¼ to ½ teaspoon)
  • Ancho Chili Powder (a pinch or two)
  • Dried tarragon (½ teaspoon)

The best vegetables for dipping

What are the best veggies for dipping in this veggie dip recipe? Of course the sky is the limit! But we find that there are certain vegetables that we like more than others. Here are the vegetables on our shortlist:

  • carrots or rainbow carrots (we love the rainbow for the look on set)
  • celery
  • pepper strips
  • broccoli (but not cauliflower, which can be tough and harder to digest when eaten raw!)
  • snow peas
  • cherry tomatoes
  • Kohlrabi The sticks (surprisingly tasty)
