It’s sweet, it’s chocolatey, and it makes some of the best sweet cocktails in the world. This is cocoa cream! This liquor sneaks into the chocolate flavor of a grasshopper and chocolate martini: but not everyone has it in their liquor stash. Is it worth grabbing a bottle? Yes, we think so: especially if you like dessert cocktails. Here you can find out more about when to use it and which cocktails are the most popular with this delicious liqueur.
What is cocoa cream?
cocoa cream is a chocolate flavored liqueur. It may be one of the first alcoholic beverages made by monks in the 16th century after cocoa beans were brought to Europe from America (source).
Does cocoa cream contain dairy products? Despite what you may think, there is no dairy products at all. The French word “crème” means it is a cream liqueur, a liqueur with a high sugar content. It comes in two varieties: white (or white), which is light, and dark, which is a rich brown color. Everyone has their own taste.
How does cocoa cream taste?
The white crème de cacao is sweet, with a strong taste of milk chocolate and hints of vanilla. The black variety is sweet with a richer dark chocolate flavor.
Is there a replacement? Crème de Cacao is a unique liqueur worth discovering. In a pinch, you can use any type of chocolate liquor, or even use Kahlua, although Kahlua is coffee-flavored.
Why we love it
The cocoa cream has a nice chocolate flavor. It is found in popular dessert drinks such as Grasshopper and Brandy Alexander (see below). Properly prepared using classic recipes, these drinks have a nuanced and sophisticated flavor… and should not be made with ice cream! (Although you like alcoholic milkshakes, we won’t judge.)
How much does it cost?
Compared to other liquors, Crème de Cacao is average price. A 750ml bottle costs about $15-$20. You can find it as cheap as $10, but we recommend going for a mid-range brand. Try the Drillaud brand.
