Strawberry Margarita

Do you like margaritas but want a fruity twist? Try this tasty and refreshing twist: a Strawberry Margarita! This one is frosty and fruity, full of berry flavors but perfectly complemented by tangy lime and hints of tequila. Marg pairs perfectly with fruit, and we already have several fruity margarita recipes under our belt: watermelon, blackberry, mango, and peach. When we prepared the latter, we fell in love with its bright red color and sweet, tangy taste. That’s how it’s done!

What’s in a Strawberry Margarita?

The margarita is a classic cocktail; It’s even on the International Bartender Association’s list of official IBA cocktails. That means there’s an “official” definition of the ingredients in a margarita: lime juice, Cointreau, and tequila. It’s in our classic margarita, our favorite of all.

This Strawberry Margarita is less like a classic margarita and more like an ice cold margarita! It’s made in a blender and has a more frozen texture! Here are the ingredients you will need:

How to make a strawberry margarita

The Strawberry Margarita is made in a blender, so this is not the standard way to make a margarita like our Classic Margarita. It’s even easier than a classic because you don’t need a shaker. Plus, this strawberry margarita makes two drinks, so here’s what you can do (or head to the full recipe below):

  1. Rim the glass with salt. A salty rim is a must here! Why? The salt enhances the sweet and sour taste of the drink! More on that below.
  2. Mixed! Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until well combined and creamy. There are two options for the texture of this margarita: read more…

want less ice cream Keep mixing.

The texture of this strawberry margarita is icy, but you can make a fruity margarita at room temperature too. How? Keep shuffling! If you blend for a few minutes, it will be less icy and have a more blended, juice-like texture.

  • Icy texture. Store frozen for a smoothie-like texture: Blend until fully incorporated and frosted.
  • Juicy texture. If you keep blending for a few minutes, you can achieve a more juice-like texture. It’s still cold, but you feel the flavors even more when it’s not so icy.

Which do we prefer? Well we love it both ways! I personally like it a little warmer so I can taste the sweet berries and tequila rim. But keep it cool and it’s a perfect summer cocktail for a hot afternoon on the patio.

Can I use fresh strawberries instead of frozen?

Yes! Do you have delicious ripe strawberries on hand? Feel free to use them in this recipe! The texture is more akin to the succulent texture mentioned above, which is just as (or more) flavorful.

The benefit of using frozen berries? You get a more icy texture if you look for it. It’s also nice to be able to store the berries for long periods of time and make a strawberry margarita on demand, rather than having to hunt for great-tasting fresh berries that you’ll have to use up in a few days.

Which tequila for strawberry margaritas?

You can use any type of tequila for this strawberry margarita, but keep the following in mind:

  • Buy at least a mid-range tequila: none of this cheap! This cocktail tastes as good as the quality of the alcohol. So try to get a mid-range tequila: you will be able to feel the difference.
  • Blanco or reposado works: Fruity margaritas can get away with blanco. We love the nuance that comes with using reposado (aged) tequila in margaritas. But for this fruity margarita with an icy texture, you can use tequila blanco! Because strawberries have so much flavor and texture, you need less nuance.

When to serve a strawberry margarita

If you need a change in your margarita, try this Strawberry Margarita! Since it has an icy texture, it is particularly suitable for summer.

  • summer drink
  • Pool party or drink by the lake
  • Happy hour drink
  • Drink at dinner
  • Cinco de Mayo drinks
  • Girls’ night, bachelor party or bridal aperitif
  • Aperitif at aperitif time
