Ingredients for a raspberry margarita

The margarita is one of the most popular classic cocktails of all time. The classic version was invented in Mexico in the 1930s and only has 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Use fresh or frozen raspberries

What do we think are the best raspberries for a raspberry margarita? Fresh berries! We love the delicate sweet taste of fresh berries. That means if everything you have is frozen, you can use them too! Here’s what you need to know:

  • Fresh Raspberries: These make a deliciously sweet drink! The texture is creamy but not icy.
  • Frozen Raspberries: These work too: follow the recipe as it’s written. This option might be cheaper if you make a whole pitcher (see below). Just keep mixing until the mixture is runny: this isn’t a frozen raspberry margarita with a mushy texture (unless you want to, of course).

Make a Pitcher Raspberry Margarita (Serves 8)

Mixing drinks for a crowd? You can easily make a pitcher of raspberry margarita: just multiply this recipe by 4! Since the math can get a little interesting with ounces and cups, we did the math for you. Put the following in a blender:

  • 1 1/2 cups of tequila
  • 1 ½ cups triple sec
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • ½ cup simple syrup
  • 4 cups of raspberries

Best tequila and triple sec for a raspberry margarita

Of course, you can use whatever you have on hand for tequila and triple sec: especially a raspberry margarita! The raspberry flavor helps balance any selection of these two liqueurs. But if you are interested better paired with berries, here’s our take on tequila styles:

  • Best Tequila: Treat yourself to a tequila blanco here! The simpler flavor balances the berries compared to an aged, woody reposado tequila. Bonus points for medium quality, like Patron.
  • Best triple sec: Either triple sec or Cointreau will work (cointreau is triple sec, if that makes sense!). Here we love Triple Sec for its clear, crisp orange flavor: but honestly, both are fantastic.
