Ingredients of this carrot smoothie
This carrot smoothie only needs a handful of ingredients. These are all foods that we typically keep in our pantry. (I hope they are in yours!) Of course you can add a few addons to support it. What you need for the easy carrot smoothie:
- carrots: Secure! We like to use large carrots (not baby carrots), but either will work.
- Apple: Apple adds texture and sweetness and pairs perfectly with carrots.
- Banana: No freezing necessary! All you need is a room-temperature banana: it adds a nice texture.
- Frozen pineapple or mango: This one needs to be frozen to get the right texture! It’s easy to find bags of these in the frozen section of your grocery store.
- Orange juice: Get to know the taste maker! The use of citrus juices brings out the perfect brightness and flavor of the ingredients.
- Ice: The ice cream provides a deliciously satisfying fluffy texture.
Add protein to this carrot smoothie
Want to add some extra protein to make this carrot smoothie a filling breakfast or post-workout snack? This carrot smoothie is a vegan smoothie: there are a few options for dairy and plant protein additives. Here are a few suggestions:
- Add the Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt is high in protein (it also contains probiotics for a healthy gut). Add ¼ to ½ cup Greek yogurt to this smoothie and use slightly less orange juice (start with ¼ cup).
- Add cashew butter or almond butter. A cashew or almond flavor pairs well with raspberries. Use about 1 tbsp, 2 for a stronger flavor. This addition also clouds the taste a bit.
Variations and additions!
Here are a few ways to top that carrot smoothie up! Especially the first one is a favorite:
- Ginger and carrot smoothie. Add ½ teaspoon grated ginger to the mixture! It adds a spicy brightness and goes well with carrots. If you don’t have fresh, try ¼ teaspoon ground ginger.
- Coconut and carrot smoothie. Make it creamier by substituting half the orange juice for coconut milk.
- Mango and carrot smoothie. Double the mango for more mango flavor.
- Carrot Pie Smoothie. Add ¼ tsp cinnamon and ½ tsp vanilla for a carrot cake vibe. Garnish with chopped pecans or walnuts.
