The hardest part of making cooked cabbage? Grate the cabbage! Have you ever struggled to cut even chunks of these vegetables? If you don’t know the right method, you can end up with a lot of mess and uneven parts. Here’s the trick we use to cut off a head of this vegetable:

  1. cut root: Remove and discard any outer layers of cabbage that appear tough or not fresh. Using a large chef’s knife, cut the root of the cabbage.
  2. quarters: Halve the cabbage through the stalk. Then cut into quarters.

Spiced boiled cabbage

Boiled cabbage is delicious with the simplest of seasonings: just butter and salt! But if you want, you can go a little fancier. But we encourage you to just give it a try: it doesn’t take any fancy herbs or supplements! Here’s what we recommend:

  • Salted butter or olive oil
  • Chopped chives
  • Finely chopped parsley
  • red pepper flakes
  • lemon juice

Keep the flavors simple and it’s amazing! A note: Be sure to salt to taste. Each cabbage is a slightly different size, so you’ll need different amounts of salt. Be sure to salt it until the flavor becomes apparent: but not so much that it tastes salty.
