Here’s the perfect banana smoothie recipe: frothy, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet flavor! It’s made from thawed bananas, so it’s ready in minutes.

Banana smoothie

Tired of the same old ways of eating a banana? (From the shell is so obsolete.) Type: this Banana Smoothie! For us, this is the most perfect banana smoothie. It has just the right creamy texture and a nice banana flavor. Because here’s the thing: Smoothies aren’t as easy to make as they seem. Throwing bananas and milk at random into a blender isn’t the way to go. (Trust us: we tried.) Instead, we tinkered with this recipe to make it perfect. And look at the cracked code.

To do what The Banana smoothie recipe?

Out of all the banana smoothie recipes, why should you choose this one? Let us tell you why this one deserves to be in your smoothie repertoire.

  • It is made from unfrozen bananas. Our pet pet peeve is opening a smoothie recipe and realizing it calls for frozen bananas. It takes forward thinking, and you want your smoothie Now! This recipe eliminates the need to freeze those bananas. (Yay.)
  • Foamy and creamy texture. You need to have the right combination of ingredients to achieve a creamy texture that isn’t runny or sticky. This nails it.
  • Sweet and bananay with no added sugar! If not properly formulated, a banana smoothie will need additional sugar to bring out the banana flavor. But this one has just the right amount of fruit to be sweet enough on its own.

Ingredients for this banana smoothie

Now that you’re convinced the blender is worth it, here are the ingredients you need to make this banana smoothie! There are only 4 ingredients:

  • Ripe bananas at room temperature: No need to freeze a banana here! You can make this banana smoothie right away.
  • Ice: A large amount of ice offsets the need for frozen bananas.
  • Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt gives this recipe a boost of protein and helpful probiotics. There is also a perfect creamy texture.
  • Milk: Just the right amount of liquid makes this smoothie blend perfectly. You can also use plant-based milk (see below).

Make it plant-based/vegan!

You can make this plant-based or vegan banana smoothie by swapping two things:

  • Use vegan yogurt or another ½ banana. Use your favorite plant-based yogurt or try another half banana to get the right texture.
  • Substitute milk for non-dairy milk (1 to 1). We like to use oat milk or almond milk. Another good option here would be coconut milk, as the flavor goes well with banana.

Optional additions and variants

You can mix and match whatever you like to customize your healthy banana smoothie! But if you want it perfect, you need to use flavors that work. Here are some ideas for mixes that go well with bananas:

  • Peanut butter. A classic combination! Use about 1 tbsp to keep it soft, 2 tbsp for a stronger peanut flavor (this will brown the smoothie a bit).
  • Vanilla. Use ¼ to ½ teaspoon vanilla to enhance flavors.
  • Cinammon. Add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon to add spice.
  • pineapple. Add ½ cup of canned pineapple to the mixture.
  • Oats. Add a handful of rolled oats to make the smoothie even heartier.
  • Coconut or toasted coconut. Coconut goes well with bananas. The toasted coconut is especially delicious, which enhances the flavor and only takes 3 minutes. (You see it here as a garnish.)

Smoothie Storage

Smoothies are best consumed immediately. But this banana smoothie will actually last 1-2 days in the fridge when stored in an airtight container or mason jar with a lid. It can separate, which is perfectly natural. Shake it and you’re good to go!
