Best Fish Type for Maple Glazed Salmon

What is the best cut of fish for this Maple Glazed Salmon recipe? Generally, Get the best fish you can afford. The recipe goes with most types of salmon. But we’ve found that low-quality frozen salmon can taste very fishy, while high-quality fresh, wild-caught salmon is much tastier.

  • Try fresh, not frozen. You can use frozen salmon if you prefer, but we find fresh salmon of the highest quality is best prepared.
  • Buy wild salmon. Wild fish caught in your country is generally a sustainable choice. There are also quality options at well-regulated farms; see Seafood Watch consumer guide.
  • Coho is a good choice. We tend to like coho salmon for its mild flavor: price-wise, it’s a good, middle-of-the-road option. Sure, the king salmon is fantastic, but it’s pricey. Avoid Atlantic salmon as they are usually farmed.
