What’s in this Mango Mojito Recipe?

This mango mojito is a tropical take on the mojito, a classic cocktail invented in Havana, Cuba in the 1930s. The drink gained momentum when Ernest Hemingway helped popularize it in America, although its origins date back hundreds of years to an indigenous medicine based on lime, rum, and mint.

Anyway, it has now solidified into a cocktail cannon by being included in the International Bartenders Association IBA’s official cocktail list. The mango variant simply uses mango nectar with the classic ingredients:

What is mango nectar? Is it the same as mango juice? mango nectar is a drink made from mango pulp and juice. This is usually 50% juice or less, while a mango juice labeled as a drink can contain up to 100% juice.

Mango nectar has a delicate sweet and sour flavor and is often used in cocktail recipes. Although it’s sweet, the taste isn’t too sweet. This mango mojito has hints of simple syrup added to bring out the fruity flavor even more.

Can you use fresh or frozen mango in this drink? Not really. We recommend making this mango margarita instead, or opting for a mango mimosa with mango puree!

Mix, shake and strain

Aside from a bottle of mango nectar, there’s not much in this mango mojito recipe! They follow the same steps as a classic mojito:

  • Crush the mint. Add the fresh mint to your shaker and gently mash with a cocktail pestle (or wooden spoon).
  • Add ingredients and ice. Take the remaining ingredients, pour them in and add ice.
  • Shake and filter. Strain the drink into a long drink glass.
  • Garnish and serve. Here you can let off steam! Prepare a batch of clear ice if you can: it really makes the drink! Then add a sprig of mint and a slice of lime.

  • 6 Mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 2 ounces* Mango nectar
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • ½ ounce simple syrup
  • 2 at 4 ounces of sparkling water
  • Ice to serve (try clear ice!)

  1. Mash the mint leaves in a shaker. Add mango nectar, rum, lime juice and simple syrup and fill the shaker with ice. Shake until cool.
  2. Strain the drink into a glass filled with ice. Fill the glass with sparkling water. Garnish with more mint and a lime wedge, if you like.
  3. Pitcher variant (8 servings): Add 2 cups of mango nectar to this mojito pitcher recipe and garnish with mint and lime wedges.
