What’s in a mango martini?

The Mango Martini is a variation on the flavored vodka martini that takes inspiration from this tropical fruit. As you may know, vodka martini is related to the classic dry martini in name only. Vodka martinis became popular in the 1990s and were primarily defined as a vodka drink served in a martini glass. You can use the fresh or frozen fruit or the juice for the mango spinner. The ingredients of a mango martini are:

  • Mango puree or mango juice
  • vodka
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • lime juice
  • Sugar

Use fresh fruit for mango puree

Do you have fresh ripe mangoes on hand? Then you should prepare homemade mango puree for this drink! It’s quick and easy to prepare in a blender. If you are making multiple drinks, increase the amounts accordingly. You will need about 2 mangoes to make 1 cup of puree. Here’s what to do:

  • Cut the fruit into cubes, then mix with a little water to form a puree. Access our mango puree recipe.
  • Sweeten to taste. All mango varieties have a different taste and sweetness varies depending on the degree of ripeness of the fruit. Add some sugar or syrup to taste. Do not forget that you also add sweetness to the drink itself.
  • Frozen fruit works too. Thaw frozen mangoes before blending!

Mango juice works too!

When shopping, you can find two types of mango juice: mango nectar and mango juice. Either work for this recipe! Here are the differences:

  • mango nectar is a drink made from mango pulp and juice. It’s usually 50% or less juice. Mango nectar has a delicate sweet and sour taste: although sweet, the taste is not overly sweet.
  • mango juice is 100% juice. The taste is tart and purer than nectar.

How to make a sugar rim

The only part of this mango martini that requires a little effort? Form the edge in sugar. Otherwise, all you have to do is shake the components of the drink in a cocktail shaker! Here’s what you need to know about making a sugar rim:

  • Use a lime wedge to wet the corner of the glass. Cut a notch in it, then run it around the rim of the glass. You can make a thicker strip as you see in the photos.
  • Put the sugar on a plate. You don’t even have to measure – any amount will do.
  • Place the outer rim of the glass in the sugar and swirl. Make sure the outer edge is evenly coated.

Pour the drink from the cocktail strainer and you’re in business. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
