Cocktail Skill: How to Crush Mint!

The most important skill you need to know to make this limoncello cocktail is mixing. What is wrong? Grinding gently crushes herbs or fruits to release their juice. This blends the flavors better than simply tossing a sprig of mint straight into the drink. Here are some things to keep in mind when blending mint:

  • Do it right in the shaker. Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker. If you don’t have one, you can use a large metal mug or bowl.
  • Soft crush the mint! Use a wooden cocktail pestle or unfinished wooden spoon, soft Mash the mint several times to release the juice. Don’t crush the mint very hard! The button uses a light touch.

Variants: Mash raspberries with mint for a raspberry mojito, or strawberries for a strawberry mojito, or slice peach for a peach mojito. Or try an 8-serving Mojito pitcher!
