When it comes to citrus drinks, here’s the thing: 7 Up is every bit as good as homemade drinks lime soda! We try not to keep soda cans in our house, but we’re all about making homemade sodas from scratch. This bubbly lemon-lime soda is amazing: the citrus kick of freshly squeezed citrus is absolute unbelievable. You will instantly swear by store bought brands.

Lemon Lime Soda Ingredients

Lime soda is a category that includes canned sodas like 7 Up, Sprite, and Sierra Mist, and even more intensely flavored drinks like Mountain Dew. Canned versions of soda are intensely sweet and have artificial flavors added.

Have you ever tried a homemade lime soda? It’s like a whole new drink: bubbly and tart, just sweet enough to make the citrus pop. Try it as a party drink or even when trying to settle an upset stomach (as this drink is sometimes used). It’s also a healthy alternative to soft drinks when you’re making a non-alcoholic cocktail or a recipe that calls for it. Here are the ingredients you will need:

Use carbonated water

There are different types of sparkling water you can use to make lemonade: and the names can be confusing! What you want here is tasteless sparkling water. You may see it in store marked as one of the following:

  • Sparkling water, also known as seltzer water, fizzy water or carbonated water is a water without additives, which is carbonated by injecting carbon dioxide (CO2). It’s the basis of brands like La Croix or what comes out of a SodaStream.
  • Sparkling mineral water is water from a natural mineral spring that has been carbonated. Examples of brands are Perrier or Topo Chico.
  • Soda is a sparkling water enriched with added minerals that give it a salty or slightly sweet taste. (Club soda is often used in cocktails, mocktails, and Italian sodas.)

Be sure to avoid tonic water: it has added quinine and sugar flavor and is a completely different product. (Use it for a gin and tonic instead!)

Lemon Lime Soda Drinks

There are several cocktails and soda fountain drinks that use lime soda as the base for the drink. Use this homemade recipe as a substitute for the canned stuff and the drink is still better! Here are some classic drinks that use lemonade:
