Iced cappuccino

Here’s a refreshing espresso drink that every coffee lover should try: Iced cappuccino! Combine espresso and a squirt of milk with ice, then top it off with Starbucks’ frozen beverage invention: Cold Foam! This extra fluffy, frothy layer mimics the frothed milk in a cappuccino, adding a fluffy, slightly sweet touch to every sip. This remains one of our favorite homemade coffee drinks to date! Here’s how to make an iced cappuccino that’s still better as Starbucks.

What is an iced cappuccino?

An iced cappuccino is a coffee drink made with espresso, milk, ice and an optional sweetener. It’s very similar to an iced latte, which makes sense since a cappuccino and a latte are incredibly similar.

The difference? A Starbucks Iced Cappuccino uses just a splash of milk in the espresso and adds cold froth for a frothy topping. A Starbucks Iced Latte simply combines espresso and milk, served over ice with no cold froth. We’ve followed the Starbucks definition for our iced cappuccino here: and the cold froth absolutely makes the drink!

How to Make a Frozen Cappuccino: Basic Steps

Would you like to prepare an iced cappuccino at home? It even tastes good better than the Starbucks version! Here are the guidelines for making an iced cappuccino at home:

  • Step 1: Prepare a double espresso.
  • Step 2: Make the cold foam.
  • Step 3: Pour the espresso over ice with 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon syrup. Garnish and serve cold!

Below you will find some tips for preparing espresso and frothing milk.

Make the espresso

The hardest part of making an iced cappuccino? Make the espresso! Find a great espresso method and you can use it for all your espresso drinks. Be sure to use dark roast or espresso coffee here for the best flavor. See Making Espresso for instructions. Here are our best methods:

  • espresso machine: An espresso machine is the best option, but the most expensive. This one is for coffee lovers and makes espresso even better than your local coffee shop.
  • Portable espresso machine: A manual espresso machine is a cheaper option and comes very close to a real espresso.
  • French press: The French Press Espresso tastes great and is an ideal option if you have one.
  • Mocha Sweat: You can also brew strong espresso coffee in a Moka (Bialetti) coffee maker.
How to make cold foam

How to make cold foam

What makes an iced cappuccino? Cold foam topping! Here’s more about it and what you need for it:

  • cold foam is frothed skim milk that makes a frothy topping for cold coffee beverages like iced coffee, cold brew and more. This Starbucks invention simulates the frothy topping of frothed milk in a latte, but at a cold temperature so it doesn’t melt when it hits the beverage.
  • What do you need to produce cold foam? skimmed milk and milk frother. You can also use a French press, but the milk frother is the best tool for this task. At $12, it’s definitely worth it (and you can use it to froth milk for hot lattes, too).
  • How do you? Go to Make Cold Foam.

There you have it: everything you need to know to make an iced cappuccino at home! Once you’ve paired your iced espresso with the cold foam topping, add a pinch of cinnamon for garnish. It adds a great spicy flavor to every sip!
