How to cut a pomegranate

Wondering how to cut a pomegranate but not sure what the best way is? This lively fruit is known for making a huge mess. If you don’t cut and seed it properly, you’ll end up seeing what looks like bloody splatters all over your kitchen! We have a great, clean way to cut a pomegranate and seed it… the right way. It’s perfect for making salads, smoothies, pomegranate juice and more. Let us begin!

How to cut a pomegranate: step by step

Step 1: Quarter the pomegranate.

Using a large chef’s knife, cut the pomegranate into wedges. A small amount of juice will spill on the cutting board: be careful! (We usually rinse the cutting board right away to make sure the juices don’t stain it.)

Step 2: Place the quarters in a bowl of water and scoop out the seeds.

Place the quarters in a large bowl of water. Under water, begin to gently remove the seeds with your fingers. Finally, you can turn the skin over to extract the seeds closest to the outer skin. The pomegranate seeds sink to the bottom while the white pith floats to the top! Use your fingers to remove any white skin clinging to the seed.

Step 3: Filter the water: you only have the seeds left!

When you have extracted all the seeds, skim off the white skin and strain the water. Voila: beautiful, vibrant pomegranate seeds! The whole process should take about 5 minutes.
