There’s nothing quite like the sweet and savory combo of honey garlic glaze and succulent shrimp. The best part? It takes 10 minutes to do. The Secrets to Honey Garlic Shrimp… in 10 Minutes!

Marinating time is not necessary with these Honey Garlic Shrimp. It’s the ultimate quick and easy dinner idea… in just 10 minutes! One note: make sure you thaw the shrimp if using frozen shrimp; it is not included in the timing. Here are some of the secrets of this cooking magic trick (or jump straight to the recipe below):

  • Mix shrimp with minced garlic, onion powder and salt. This allows for maximum coverage of the spices on the shrimp first.
  • Mix up a quick sauce. Honey, soy sauce and vinegar is all you need and it’s absolute perfection!
  • Fry for 1 to 2 minutes on each side. For more information on how to sear to perfection, see Perfect Shrimp Sauté.
  • Turn off the heat and add the sauce! It’s important to remove the heat so the sauce doesn’t evaporate when it hits the hot pan.

The best shrimp to buy

When it comes to buying shrimp, there are so many options in the store these days. When preparing these Honey Garlic Shrimp, we recommend the following:

  • Find medium (or large) shrimp. Medium is nice because you get more bites! But both work. Medium is also marked with 41-50 points and Large with 31-40 points (indicating how many shrimp there are per pound).
  • Use the tail or peeled. For this recipe, we love the tail because it looks beautiful. But you have to remove the tails with your hands while eating them! So Pele is great too.
  • Fresh or frozen. Both have essentially the same freshness as most shrimp are frozen immediately. Just make sure you thaw the shrimp beforehand.
  • wild caught. Wild fish caught in your country is generally a sustainable choice. There are also quality options at well-regulated farms; see Seafood Watch consumer guide.

Defrost shrimp

What is the best way to defrost shrimp? It’s easiest the day before! But if, like us, you rarely think ahead: there is also a method. Here’s the best way to defrost the shrimp for this Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe:

  • The previous day: Place the frozen shrimp in the refrigerator overnight.
  • day of: Place frozen shrimp in a large bowl of very cold water. Shake the bowl every 5 minutes to break up clumps of frozen shrimp. The shrimp should defrost in about 15 minutes. Be sure to dry it well before using it!

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

  5. Turn off the heat and remove the shrimp. Pour the glaze into the pan and stir until thickened, scraping any browned bits off the bottom of the pan. Once thickened, return the shrimp to the sauce and serve.
