What’s in this Christmas punch recipe?
This holiday punch is an alcoholic punch recipe, but you can easily make it non-alcoholic (see section below). Here’s what you need to combine in a large punch bowl:
- Champagne or Prosecco or dry white wine
- ginger ale
- Cointreau (or triple sec)
- pineapple juice

Chill all ingredients (no ice needed)
No ice is required for this holiday punch: in fact, you should avoid it! Ice dilutes a punch and weakens the flavor. In some cocktails it is necessary. But that’s not necessary here: the best flavor comes simply when all the ingredients are chilled before serving! You can get away with not chilling the Cointreau, but everything else needs chilling.
Sparkling wine adds bubbles or use white wine
This holiday punch goes great with sparkling wine because it gets the bubbles going! We prefer a good Prosecco to Champagne because it’s cheaper and tastes great! You can also use a dry white wine instead. Here are the differences between these sparkling wine options:
- sparkling wine: French sparkling wine (most expensive choice). It has a sparkling and fruity taste with hints of almond and orange. A good bottle costs between $30 and $40, so you might want to save it to drink straight.
- Prosecco: Italian sparkling wine. It’s a little sweeter than champagne: fruity and floral, with hints of apple, pear and lemon. A good bottle costs about $15.
- How are you: Spanish sparkling wine. It has more citrus notes and is slightly tastier and less fruity. It also usually costs around $15.

- 2 Bottles of champagne or prosecco or dry white wine*
- 2 cups ginger ale
- ½ cup Cointreau* (or Triple Sec)
- 2 cups pineapple juice
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 Lemon, sliced
- Raspberries or cranberries for garnish
- Mint leaves or rosemary leaves for garnish
- Refrigerate all liquids. Just before serving, stir together the sparkling wine or white wine, ginger ale, Cointreau, and pineapple juice in a large punch bowl.
- Garnish with orange slices, lemon slices, raspberries or cranberries and herbs for garnish. Serve immediately. The bubbles will dissipate after about 20 minutes, so it’s best to serve immediately (but tastes good even without the bubbles).
Remarks
*For a non-alcoholic punch, substitute sparkling wine for sparkling wine and Cointreau for orange juice.
