What is ranch dressing made of? Most recipes include mayonnaise, buttermilk, onions, garlic, spices, and herbs. For this healthy ranch dressing, we decided to reduce the mayonnaise a bit. Our secret? Natural yoghurt! It makes the dressing a little lighter and adds a touch of probiotics to the yogurt. You need the mayo to add richness so the dressing will stick to the lettuce leaves, but not as much as you would in a standard recipe. Here are the ingredients you need for this healthy ranch dressing:

  • Natural yoghurt
  • mayonnaise
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Spices: garlic powder, onion powder and dried dill
  • Optional: chopped chives or chopped spring onion

Adding chopped chives or chopped green onions gives the flavor a nice freshness. This takes it to the next level: but it’s also not necessary if you don’t have them handy!

This Healthy Homemade Ranch Dressing is creamy, flavorful and only takes 5 minutes to make! It contains plain yoghurt and a simple blend of spices.


  • ½ cup Natural yoghurt whole milk*
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

  1. Whisk all ingredients in a bowl. Store in the refrigerator (shelf life at least 1 week).**

Remarks

* Make sure the yoghurt has a creamy consistency. Most yogurt brands we’ve used have worked, but we found one very runny brand that didn’t work well for the dressing.

**Adding 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh chives or green onions takes it up a notch. You can also use ranch seasoning in place of the spices: just add 1 tbsp in place of the spices listed above.
