Greek yogurt vegetable dip

This Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip is good any time of year, but it’s especially perfect for the upcoming holidays. As we transitioned our diet toward mostly natural, whole foods, we said goodbye to conveniences like prepackaged dips and dressings. I grew up using packets of ranch powder mixed with sour cream to create a veggie dip, which unfortunately doesn’t fit our current desire to avoid overly processed products with mysterious ingredients.

Luckily, a dip made with “real” ingredients only takes a few minutes longer and is healthier too! Grab some Greek yogurt, dice a shallot, add spices and voila – a healthy veggie Greek yogurt dip for your veggie platter, lunch or snack. We adapted this recipe from some concepts we saw online and replaced Greek yogurt with a healthier version.

What’s in this Greek Yogurt Vegetable Dip?

The main ingredient in this recipe is – you guessed it – Greek yogurt. It’s important that you buy yogurt with some fat, otherwise this delicious dip won’t have a strong flavor. Since the spices in this recipe are so simple, you’ll need a quality yogurt to make this dip shine. You can definitely choose yogurt with a higher fat content, but we’ve found that 2% fat yogurt has just the right amount of creaminess and still tastes slightly tart.

The shallot in this recipe is also important as it adds a hint of garlic and onion flavor to this Greek yogurt and vegetable dip. In a pinch, you can add a little minced garlic and a yellow onion to this recipe, but I would avoid that if possible as this dip can easily be overpowered by such strong flavors. The shallots have a fairly mild flavor that pairs well with this easy yogurt dip.

How to make Greek Yogurt Vegetable Dip

Homemade Vegetable Dip couldn’t be easier to make! All you have to do is chop the shallot and measure out 2 tbsp to mix with the rest of the ingredients. Seriously, this is it! We used dried herbs to achieve that classic ranch flavor, so have all the ingredients on hand for those days when you’re craving a veggie dip.

One thing to note is that when preparing the shallot, you need to be careful to slice it fairly thinly. You definitely don’t want to bite down on a large chunk of raw shallot when enjoying this Greek Yogurt Vegetable Dip. Plus, this homemade veggie dip recipe is foolproof!

We love making homemade versions of our favorite treats. Have you made homemade versions of processed/store-bought foods? Favorites?
