The addition of fresh ginger root makes this popular drink even more irresistible: Spicy ginger goes perfectly with the tangy kick of lemon! This ingredient gives it a complexity that makes it taste almost like a cocktail. We’re obsessed with homemade lemonade flavors (strawberry, cucumber, mint), and this one was at the top of our list. That’s how it’s done!

Note on ginger content

This ginger lemonade can be customized depending on how strong you want the ginger to be. Personally, we like a fairly spicy kick in these types of drinks: but we know that’s not for everyone (especially if you’re serving kids!). Here’s what you can use as a guide:

  • Use ¾ cup ginger (sliced) for a tangy ginger finish. This will definitely give you a little burning sensation in your throat – that’s exactly what we were looking for! It was a bit too spicy for our 5 year old son.
  • Use ½ cup ginger (sliced) for a milder flavor. The ginger is not as pronounced and the sharp burn is less.

How to Make Ginger Lemonade (Basic Steps)

The kick of tangy fresh ginger in this lemonade is instantly unforgettable! Ginger Lemonade is quick and easy to make at home: the only time-consuming part is squeezing the lemons! Here are some tips for making this drink (or continue with the recipe below for ingredient quantities):

  • Squeeze lemons. Our recommendation for squeezing lemons quickly? A Squeeze the juicer! It extracts the most juice and keeps your fingers from getting tired from squeezing. The next best choice? A portable juicer.
  • Mix ginger and sugar and bring to the boil. Try it in the blender: you want it to combine all the way into a uniform liquid.
  • Strain through a fine sieve! This step is crucial! It removes the ginger skins, resulting in a smooth lemonade (otherwise the dregs will float to the top).
  • Shuffle the pitcher. Combine ginger syrup, lemon juice and water in a pitcher. That’s it!
