Do you like fresh basil? We also. Here’s our new favorite way of using it: Basil Cocktail! Pepper green grass gives this drink a wonderfully fresh taste. It’s a lime gin drink: crisp and fresh, with a sweet and tart taste. When Alex handed it to me and I took the first sip, I was ecstatic. Nothing beats basil in the summer, and we think it can be used just like that. (Or a basil sprig.) Here’s how to use basil in cocktails and the recipe for this delicious green drink.

How to make a basil cocktail (muddle it!)

How do I use basil in a cocktail? you confuse him! Grinding is a technique used in beverages to gently crush herbs or fruits to release their juice. This allows the flavors to integrate into the drink better than just adding whole leaves to the drink. What is the correct way to confuse? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Gently mash the basil (in a shaker) 3 to 4 times. Use a cocktail pestle or wooden spoon. Don’t reduce it to a mush! This should be just enough to release the juice.
  • Add the lemon, lime, gin and simple syrup and shake with ice. Don’t have a cocktail shaker? See below.
  • Filter and garnish. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with basil. like that ! A nice basil cocktail.

Stirring the basil is the main technique required for this basil cocktail. Here are the necessary cocktail tools for jamming. But if you don’t have a professional setup, we’ll get it! You can make this drink using tools you probably already have at home.

  • Cocktail Shaker: A cocktail shaker cools cocktails quickly by shaking them against ice and has a strainer so you can pour the cocktail without pouring the ice. What can I use instead of a shaker for mixing? Use a large metal cup or bowl to crush: for safety, do not crush into glass. You can transfer it to a glass jar to add the drink ingredients and ice, then cover the lid and shake! Pour it through a strainer into the serving glass.
  • Cocktail pestle: An unfinished wooden pestle is recommended to prevent artificial flavors from getting into your drink. What can I use instead of a pestle? Use a wooden spoon.

The gin for this basil cocktail

The better the gin, the better the drink! This basil cocktail goes well with many different types of gin. We generally recommend buying a bottle of mid-range gin: this is usually an indicator of quality. Here are some additional notes on gin:

  • Each bottle of gin tastes a little different and has different botanical aromas. Experiment to find your favorite!
  • We love Malfy Ginso that’s what we used here.
  • Avoid Tanqueray Gin: In our opinion there is a strong floral quality.

Cultivation and storage of fresh basil

Fresh basil is fantastic for cocktails of all kinds. You can also use it in soft drinks, mixing it in smoothies or using it in infused water. Here are some pointers for growing and storing fresh basil:

  • Growing it at home is easy! All you need is a pot and a sunny ledge. Go to How to Grow Basil.
  • Trim it regularly. Basil stays healthy if you harvest it regularly. Go to How to Harvest Basil.
  • Store chopped basil in a sealed jar with water. This extends the shelf life by 3-5 days. See Storing Basil.
