What is a Garibaldi cocktail?

Garibaldi is an Italian two-ingredient cocktail made with Campari and orange juice. The drink is named after Giuseppe Garibaldi, a general who helped unify Italy in 1871. The idea behind this is that Campari comes from Northern Italy and Oranges from Southern Italy… where the union of North and South took place. your drink! The drink is an aperativo or aperatif meant to be drunk before dinner.

use orange juice

The important part of the orange juice in a Garibaldi: Don’t even think about using a bottle of orange juice bought here. The magic is in the fresh in a hurry Orange juice. You can use any type of orange; Here are our preferred options:

  • Valencia oranges are the most classic for drinking. You can also use clementines or satsumas.
  • blood oranges are another good choice. That’s what we used here: The blood oranges are a nice red color that goes well with the bright Campari red. The dark red of the blood orange slice is also spectacular as a garnish.

How to make Garibaldi: Blend the juice to get a frothy finish!

Here’s the cool thing about orange juice in a Garibaldi cocktail: It’s mixed so that a frothy foam forms on top. It’s almost like a natural version of the classic egg white foam over a sour whiskey. The foam traditionally came from the juicer, but you can use a blender or a few other tools to achieve the same effect. Here are some tools you can use:

  • Mixer: Place your orange juice in the blender and blend until fluffy.
  • hand frother: We have a handheld frother for frothing milk for lattes, and it works like a charm here!
  • Whip: You can also just use a whisk. Stir vigorously until you see foam.

From there, all you have to do is combine the two ingredients in a highball glass and fill it with ice. It’s that simple: no shaker needed!
