Fresh Cranberry Salsa

Ready in under 10 minutes, this fresh cranberry salsa is tangy and slightly flavorful in the best possible way. Serve with pita chips or spread on a sandwich!

We try to eat as seasonally as possible, but sometimes it gets a bit difficult, especially in winter. We tend to indulge in little things like fresh cilantro or citrus. So we loved the idea of pairing them with cranberries for a winter cranberry salsa – a touch of warmer weather!

The inspiration behind this cranberry salsa

This cranberry salsa recipe comes from my dear friend Milena, who has been thinking about sustainability and the environment for years before they even occurred to me. In fact, she was instrumental in inspiring Alex and I to imagine how we eat and live today.

As she is now doing her doctorate in Vienna and studying sustainable agriculture, we had the rare pleasure of a visit and with it this delicious salsa! I don’t know who she attributes the recipe to, but it was a delicious start to our weekend of delicious cooking (including the Mediterranean bulgur salad and the spiced roasted cauliflower – delicious!).

Try it with pita chips or tortilla chips, or spread it on a sandwich.

How to make fresh cranberry salsa

This cranberry salsa is incredibly easy to make as the food processor does all the work for you! To make this homemade salsa, you must first roughly chop the red onion and jalapeño pepper. If you want a spicier salsa, leave a few seeds in the jalapeño (and be careful not to touch your face after you’ve worked with the chili!).

Then simply add the remaining ingredients to a food processor and blend until the cranberry salsa is combined. We personally like our salsa to be a little thicker, but the final consistency is entirely up to you!

The great thing about this cranberry salsa recipe is that you can use fresh or frozen cranberries in it. However, if you decide to use frozen cranberries, be sure to let them come to room temperature before making this recipe.

How to store fresh cranberry salsa

This cranberry salsa keeps well in the fridge for a good week, and the flavor improves as you let the flavors meld. We haven’t tried freezing this salsa (it doesn’t last that long in our house!), so I can’t say how well this storage method would work.
