Ingredients in a blueberry margarita
Invented in Mexico in the 1930s, the margarita is one of the most popular classic cocktails of all time. The standard recipe only has 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. For a blueberry margarita, all you have to do is add fresh blueberries! To balance the acidity of the berries, we added a dash of simple syrup. Here are the ingredients you will need:

Can you use frozen blueberries?
This blueberry margarita works with fresh or frozen blueberries. But a word of advice: we recommend defrosting the berries beforehand! It’s not a frozen margarita, so it’s not mixed in a blender: it’s shaken in a shaker with ice. So thaw the berries before using them! The taste is a bit fresher with fresh berries, but the difference is small.
Use of Cointreau against Triple Sec
What’s the best orange liqueur for a blueberry margarita: Cointreau or Triple Sec? You can use both, but we have a favorite. Here’s what we recommend:
- First choice: Cointreau. Cointreau is a premium orange liqueur with a distinctive orange scent. It has notes of oak and vanilla, giving it a more refined flavor than Triple Sec.
- Next choice: Triple Sec. Triple Sec has a slightly less refined flavor than Cointreau: it has a very simple orange essence (almost like orange vodka). But either will work in a blueberry margarita!
