Red wine vinegar will do the trick and do all the necessary stuff except for the Basil Pantry ingredients. What you need for a basil vinaigrette:

Use a food processor or blender

You can use a food processor or blender for this recipe, but there are a few things to keep in mind regarding recipe size. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Food processor or hand blender: This recipe makes ½ cup basil vinaigrette. A food processor works best with this small amount of ingredients; You can also use a blender and mug.
  • Standard Mixer: You can also use a commercial blender! If this is the gear you have, we encourage you to do so double the recipe. A larger amount blends better in a large blender. Then follow the storage instructions below.

This basil vinaigrette is best made fresh! As mentioned above, this recipe makes ½ cup: This should be enough for 4 salads or to drizzle over fish or seafood. Do you want to double it for leftovers or make it in a standard blender? Store this basil vinaigrette in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

The basil loses some of its color but is still quite green. Be sure to bring to room temperature before serving, as olive oil will solidify in the fridge.

  • 1 small clove of garlic
  • 1 cup wrapped basil leaves
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1½ tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon Sugar

  1. Peel the garlic clove and place in a food processor*: puree until coarsely chopped. Add the remaining ingredients and toss until the basil is finely chopped and combines into a vinaigrette. Store leftovers in the refrigerator: bring to room temperature before serving.

Remarks

*You can also use a blender. In a standard sized blender, it’s easiest to double the recipe and make 1 cup of the dressing. You can use the recipe as is with a hand blender.
