Use roast, medium-fine ground espresso coffee

Besides a French Press, what do you need for a French Press Espresso? Espresso roast coffee, medium-fine ground. Therefore these things are important:

  • Roast espresso is important to get the right dark, bitter taste typical of espresso shots. We like Starbucks Espresso Roast or Intelligentsia Black Cat.
  • Medium-fine grind is important for use in the French Press. Espresso coffee beans are usually ground very finely when using an espresso machine. But if it’s too thin, the French Press will be difficult to filter, and you’ll end up with buildup in your coffee cups.

Which French Press to buy

Other ways to make espresso without a machine

French press espresso is our best way to make espresso without a machine because it has the best flavor and doesn’t require any special equipment. But if you’re looking for other options, here are some more ideas:

  • Manual espresso machine: This option has the best taste for a given tool and at $66 is a lot cheaper than a machine. This manual espresso machine is what we use: it’s cheap and portable.
  • Aeropress: The Aeropress is even cheaper, but you’ll sacrifice taste: the espresso isn’t great, but it’s decent if you’re in a tight spot. Try this Aeropress espresso method.
