Fish Taco Seasoning

Want to make fish tacos? Here’s the best Fish Taco Seasoning that brings just the right taste! It has salty and smoky notes with a barely perceptible hint of spiciness. Use it as a dry marinade and the fish will turn out tender with a nice spice crust. Here’s how to make this spice mix and how to use it when making fish tacos!

What’s in Fish Taco Seasoning?

This fish taco seasoning has all the character cast you’ve come to expect from a Mexican seasoning mix! It’s similar to fajita seasoning or taco seasoning, with a few changes. Here are the ingredients you need:

  • chilli powder
  • cumin
  • smoked paprika
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder

What is smoked paprika? It’s a Spanish version of paprika that smokes the peppers before drying them, adding a hint of smoke to every bite. If you can’t find it, you can use sweet paprika. But it adds a lot of flavor here! If you buy a jar, you can use it with these best smoked paprika recipes.

Fish Taco Seasoning

It works with any white fish!

This fish taco seasoning works with any type of white fish you want to use in tacos! Here are the best types of fish:

  • Tilapia: has a great smooth taste and buttery texture
  • Cod: the taste is even sweeter! Cod is a great option here
  • Job description: just as tasty: a bit meatier and richer

How to Use This Fish Taco Seasoning (as a Dry Rub!)

If you use this fish taco seasoning, you can use it as a Rub dry. That means you don’t even have to add oil to the fish! It envelops the tender fish in a slightly crispy layer of spices. Here’s what to do when you do this:

  • Salt the fish first, then add the dry marinade. Pat the fish dry, then sprinkle with salt first. This will ensure that the fish is well seasoned. Add fish taco seasoning as a dry marinade and pat to coat the fish.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Place the fish on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10 minutes until soft.
  • Grill for 2 minutes (optional). If desired, you can grill for a few minutes until the top is lightly browned.

Double or triple it and save it for later use

You can make just one recipe of this Fish Taco Seasoning, or you can make 2, 3, or 4 times the seasoning and use it for future batches. The key is to use 2 tablespoons spice per pound of fish.

If you’re storing spices, place them in an airtight jar and store in a cool, dry place: like your other spice and spice mixes. It should last about 1 year.
