Ingredients in an espresso martini with Baileys

Espresso martini is a vodka martini blended with espresso invented in 1983. It has become so popular that it is on the International Bartender Association’s list of official IBA cocktails, meaning it has an official definition. The drink was invented by a bartender at Soho Brasserie in London named Dick Bradsell, who created it for a customer who asked for a drink to wake her up. The coffee machine was right next to the drinks station and the espresso martini was born.

A classic espresso martini contains vodka, kahlua, and espresso. The Baileys Espresso Martini adds Baileys Irish Cream for a creamy element. The ingredients you need are:

  • vodka
  • Double or coffee liqueur
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • espresso or strong coffee
whiskey cream

Prepare the glass: This is how a coffee bean rim is created

For this espresso martini with Baileys, we added an element that doesn’t belong to the standard definition of the drink: a coffee bean rim! This gives a pleasantly sweet coffee flavor at the start of each sip and also adds a bit of a crunchy texture. How to make a coffee bean rim:

  • Grind the coffee beans very finely. You only need a handful of beans.
  • Put it in a flat layer on a plate with the same amount of sugar.
  • Moisten the rim of the glass.
  • Soak those Outside Press the edge of the rim into the glass while rotating the rim slightly. All you need is to cover the outside of the jar, not the inside.

How to make an espresso martini with Baileys

Once you’ve made the rim of the coffee beans, there’s not much left to an espresso martini! Simply prepare your espresso and shake the drink in a shaker. Here are some notes on the method:

  • Make coffee. Make an espresso shot with an espresso machine or in an aeropress. Or if you don’t have an espresso machine, brew a very strong cup of coffee (we use the Chemex or Aeropress).
  • Shake in a cocktail shaker. Combine Baileys, Kahlua, vodka and espresso in a shaker, add ice and shake (don’t have one? Use a mason jar!)
  • Pour into a glass and decorate. Strain into the prepared martini glass or stemmed cocktail glass.

That’s it! It’s creamy and nuanced, with hints of vanilla and chocolate from the Baileys emphasizing the coffee’s bitter notes. That is
