What could be better for the holidays than a good spinach dip? This one is so easy to make: it’s the kind served cold, perfect for dipping pita chips or serving in a bread bowl. Slightly healthier than most, the recipe relies on Greek yogurt for much of the creaminess. And since it doesn’t need to be cooked, it’s quick to assemble: just 10 minutes! Literally the perfect bite for light entertainment. Alex and I are head over heels in love with this one…as is Larson, who is currently terrified of spinach Love this creamy dip (see picture!).

How to Make Spinach Dip (Served Cold)

This spinach dip recipe came as a challenge: from my sister Lisa. She has worked with us in the past for testing and modeling (like this dinner party!). So when she asked me, “Do you have a good spinach dip recipe?” We jumped at the challenge. This is the variety that is served cold, so it’s so quick to make: no need to cook! (Although we have a baked version if you need it.) Here’s what you need to make for this recipe:

  • Thaw and juice the spinach. Because this recipe uses frozen spinach, no cooking is required at all. Simply thaw the spinach, then squeeze out as much water as possible. The easiest way to do this is with a fine-mesh sieve.
  • Chop the shallot and spring onion. The only cut you will make is mince a shallot and thinly slice a spring onion. Using real onions gives this spinach dip great flavor (compared to using a processed flavor packet like many recipes do).
  • Stir in Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, parmesan, and spices. Then all you have to do is toss the veggies with Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, and spices! Very easily. You can serve immediately or store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

A healthy version of this spinach dip

What makes this spinach dip a healthy twist on the traditional? Well, a few things.

  • It’s 3 parts Greek yogurt to 1 part mayonnaise. Greek yogurt reduces calories and richness while maintaining the super creamy dip. This recipe uses mayo for flavor and richness, but not as much as most spinach dips.
  • Real flavors versus “fake” one-pack ranch or soup flavors. Many standard dip recipes use instant soup or ranch flavors that contain artificial flavors and preservatives. Instead, this dip is full of natural ingredients from real foods: nothing processed!

Serve like this!

This spinach dip only takes about 10 minutes to make—and no cooking required! All you have to figure out is how to serve it. Here’s what we recommend:

  • pita chips. This dip goes great with potato chips or pita chips: try this recipe for homemade pita chips.
  • Bread. Even sliced bread works! Or you can go retro and serve it in a bread bowl.
  • Crostini. Make a batch of our Easy Crostini!
  • Vegetables. We like it best with more unflavored bread or fries, but it also works with raw veggies like carrots.
  • Cracker. Or try your favorite crackers. These Homemade Crackers and Cashew Almond Crackers are delicious homemade options.

Spinach dip variations

There are a few variations of this spinach dip you can try if you want to mix it up a bit:

  • Artichoke with spinach. Want to add some artichoke flavor? Toss it with chopped artichokes from a 14-ounce (8.5 ounces dry weight) can of artichoke wedges.
  • Baked dip, served hot! Want a baked dip instead? Go to Hot Spinach Artichoke Dip.
  • water chestnuts. Some traditional spinach dip recipes include water chestnuts for crunchy-sweet explosions. If you’re a fan of water chestnuts, take an 8-ounce can and add them chopped.

More party recipes!

This spinach dip is perfect for parties; We first served it on Super Bowl night this year and it got rave reviews! We could also imagine serving it around holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Here are a few more of our favorite bits of entertainment:

  • Baked Taquitos Everyone loves taquitos! They are baked and filled with a flavorful bean and cheese filling.
  • Peanut Butter Dip This dip has only 4 ingredients and tastes like icing! Perfect for dipping apples, pretzels or fruit.
