There are many ways to prepare sour cream sauce. As usual, we thought we’d go with the simplest thing: add spices, chives, and salt and stir. There’s no need to make a cook sweat—this one is quick and easy as a dip or sprinkle. Here’s what you need:

- onion powder
- garlic powder
- Kosher salt
- milk
- chives

All you have to do? Mix the ingredients together! For quantities, see the recipe below. Here are some quick notes:
- Use just enough milk to homogenize the sauce. Add just enough to have a pourable consistency. The exact amount depends on the brand of sour cream and how you use the sauce. If you want it thicker or thinner, you can improvise. We’ve included whole milk, but you can use 2% if you’d like.
- Use fresh or dried chives. We often use chives as we grow them right outside our door. But if you don’t have easy access, you can use dried chives too! It doesn’t taste that fresh, but it works.

- 1 cup sour cream
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 at 3 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 tbsp chopped dried or fresh chives
- Mix all the ingredients together, using just enough milk to bring the sauce to a smooth consistency*. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Remarks
*The exact amount depends on the brand of sour cream and how you use the sauce. If you want it thicker or thinner, adjust it as you need. We have indicated whole milk but you can use 2% if you prefer.
