Want your hydration to be more fun? Attempt cucumber water! You may have seen it in spas or beauty salons, and the botanical flavor tastes like relaxing poolside in one sip. But how do you make this delicious infused water? Just mix cucumber and water? Good way. Here’s what you need to know to prepare this tasty drink!

How to Make Cucumber Water: Basic Steps

Cucumber water only requires cucumbers and water. But you need one more thing: time! It takes 1 hour for the aroma to soak into the water. Here’s what to do:

  • Slice ½ cucumber into thin slices.
  • Add 8 cups of cold water.
  • Refrigerate For 1 hour!

Cheat tip: This infused water actually tastes great after about 10 minutes. So if you are in a hurry, you can serve immediately. Just use very cold water.

Use a regular or English pickle

You can use any type of cucumber for this cucumber water! You usually see it with the standard variety, but an English cucumber will work too. What is the difference?

  • English cucumbers are long and straight, with thin skin with ridges and very small seeds. Because the thin skin is so fragile, it’s sold in the grocery store with a plastic sleeve. This is our favorite variety because the flavor is so mild and it doesn’t need to be peeled. Learn more about English cucumbers here.
  • Cut standard cucumbers are shorter, with thick, dark green skin and very large seeds. The thick skin and seeds can be bitter, so they are often removed during cooking.

Additives for cucumber water: herbs, lemon etc.

Once you’ve mixed up a batch of pickle water, you can add a few optional ingredients before and after serving to make it really pop. It’s perfect for entertaining! We usually drink it straight.

  • Fresh herbs like mint or basil: Add them before letting the cucumber steep for 1 hour. Or go for Cucumber Herb Water.
  • Lemon or Lime: We like to serve this water with a few lemon wedges or slices. Or you can infuse the citrus: opt for cucumber-lemon water.

How long does cucumber water keep?

Cucumber water even lasts longer than most infused water recipes. Plan to store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Unlike other fruits and vegetables like strawberries, which tend to fall apart (as in this fruit-infused water), cucumber holds up well to storage over time. However, it tastes better in 1 day!

It’s also great with sparkling water

Liven up your pickle water with a few bubbles! For flavored sparkling water, you can add sparkling water or club soda. We use a SodaStream, or you can use your favorite brand of sparkling water (La Croix, Topo Chico, etc.).
