Cottage Cheese Breakfast Bowls
Cottage cheese is great for breakfast as it’s low in calories and high in protein – keeping you full all day! Let’s be the first to say it: the idea of cottage cheese and pineapple was never our thing. But garnish it with fresh berries or apples and cinnamon and it’s a whole new ball game. Promise! If you like the texture of cottage cheese, we get it. But we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised here! Here’s what to do:
- Place ¾ cup cottage cheese in a bowl. All brands taste different, so find one you like. (We love the taste of the Daisy brand.)
- Garnish with berries or diced apples. We used blueberries, raspberries and blackberries for the berry bowl shown here. For the cinnamon apple, we used Pink Lady apples (our favorite variety!).
- Add a pinch of chopped walnuts. Opt for pistachios for the berry shell and pecans for the apple.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon and a dash of honey. Both ingredients are key to enhance the flavors. You can use maple syrup if you prefer.

A healthy start to the day
Make a cottage cheese breakfast bowl and it’s both delicious and filling. A serving of ½ cup blueberries and 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios has:
- 234 calories
- 25 grams of protein
One thing to watch out for with cottage cheese is sodium: this recipe provides 30% of your daily sodium intake. This shouldn’t be a problem if you regularly prepare healthy, wholesome meals, but keep this in mind if you also eat a lot of salty foods throughout the day.
