Do you like a good nitro coffee, a cold brew or an iced coffee? Then you’ll love this unique way to caffeine: the coffee soda! Mix equal parts sparkling water and cold brew coffee for this drink and serve in a tall glass with ice. We were blown away by the taste: it’s bittersweet and bubbly, with a sparkle from the fizz reminiscent of nitro coffee. It’s our new favorite way to drink coffee, especially in the afternoon! It’s basically homemade nitro coffee and incredibly refreshing.

What is coffee soda?

Coffee soda is an espresso or cold brew drink topped with club soda. It’s a way to mimic carbonated coffee without actually carbonated the drink. The taste is similar to nitro coffee, although nitro is cold brew coffee infused with nitrogen bubbles. It’s a great way to breathe new life into cold brew, and with no sweeteners, it’s a very low calorie drink! Here are the ingredients you will need for the coffee soda:

How to make cold brew

There are several ways to prepare cold brew coffee for this coffee lemonade! All you need is 24 hours. The standard method uses a large jug and strainer, but you can use a French press to make straining even easier! Try these methods:

The other way to make a coffee soda? With espresso! You don’t need a fancy espresso machine to make espresso at home (although you can!). Here are a few different methods to prepare espresso for this drink:

• espresso machine: Go to How to Make Espresso if you have an espresso machine.
• Portable espresso machine: A portable espresso machine is an inexpensive way to brew great espresso. Follow the instructions that come with this coffee maker!
• Moka Pot (aka Bialetti): Moka pot coffee is a very strong coffee, not technically an espresso. But it works great for a coffee soda.
• French press: This french press espresso is very good and a great espresso tool if you have it.

How to make coffee soda

Coffee soda is as easy as pouring cold brew and club soda into a glass! But here are some notes:

• Use equal parts coffee and sparkling water. This ratio gives the best taste.
• Add sweetener if desired. We used 1 teaspoon of maple syrup for just a hint of sweetness.
• Intensify with clear ice. Crystalline ice cream is a sensation and is easy to prepare at home.
• Garnish with cold mousse. Increase the fun factor with cold froth: milk froth as a topping for iced coffee.
